Cinetalk: Inception

Okay, I was waiting for a summer blockbuster and it has arrived. Christopher Nolan has given us cinematic gems like “The Dark Knight”, “The Prestige” and “Memento”. “Inception”, which he wrote and directed, is another example of why he is considered to be one of Hollywood’s best. If you have been following my blog, you know I am a huge Leo fan. Supported by such greats as Michael Caine, Tom Berenger and Marion Cotillard, Leonardo gives another outstanding performance. I wonder how many scripts he receives because I would imagine every screenplay writer has him in mind. If you are not familiar with Marion Cotillard’s work, do yourself a favor and rent “La Vie en Rose”. She is becoming one of my favs. Other supporting cast members include Joseph Gordon-Levitt (“500 Days of Summer” and “The Brothers Bloom”), Tom Hardy (“Meadowlands”) and Ken Watanabe (“Letters From Iwo Jima”). The one flaw I found in the casting is Ellen Page who I loved as “Juno” but looked way to young to play the role of Ariadne. Otherwise it was really cool and I think a big screener. If you haven’t seen it yet, do so and don’t think you’re the only one who is a bit confused at times. It’s just the genius of Christopher Nolan.

Instead of reviewing an older film, I would like to mention a film that just got released on DVD. I saw the trailer and thought it looked like a fun flick. I was thoroughly entertained by Aaron Johnson as his self proclaimed superhero “Kick Ass”. Johnson starred as John Lennon in last years “Nowhere Boy” and was nominated for several awards. Chloe Moretz (Hit Girl) makes my case once more for the teenage category in the Oscars. Co-writers Jane Goldman and Matthew Vaughn who have worked together before in “Stardust” have a real hit on their hands and I predict will do a sequel.

Thanks for letting me share. I remain, John
