Uhm, I Think The Robot Malfunctioned….

Many years ago, someone realized that the Internet was a great place to publish their writing for nothing, and be able to generate fans, and in some cases, income. Thus was born the ‘Web Log‘.Of, course, with the Internet, life became faster and “Web Log” was cumbersome, and as society changed, just to many words, hence the term “Blog“. Personally not seeing the improvement myself, but it is what it is. Yup, Blogs are a great thing. Never before has society had so much access to so much information, or so many different opinions. Some such as CtNewsJunkie.com, CtWatchdog.com, CtTechJunkie, OntheHorn.com and ConnecticutDaytrips.com are great resources for residents of the state. In depth coverage that “Legacy Media” no longer has the time, money or interest in doing anymore. Something about going “tabloid” and “ratings”. Such the shame. There are also blogs on food, hiking, fishing, actually, there is a blog on pretty much everything you may want to learn about. I just came across a rather neat Facebook group you should all check out. “Bloggers and Writers of Ct” This is an open group. Check them out. You just find your next favorite writer here. And some Blogs can end up making some person very rich. Ever heard of this little site called the “Huffington Post” ?

Now the real reason for this, is that one of my associates Janice Christopher from What’s Ideal For You, sent me a rather funny email. Oh, and by the way, Janice is also one of the team, and she will be leading the “Out and About With Friends” campaign. Since we have built a rather nice online community, the natural progression would be to take this community offline, and into some really cool places, and have some fun, but more on that later. But I digress.

As all of us who have a “blog” can tell you, we are under constant “attack” by spammers and hackers. These spammers and hackers are about the lowest form of life on the Internet. These scum make their living off of our hard work. Some go after our email accounts, some just try to insert a link on our website by “writing” and posting a comment on some article that is buried in our archives. Just so you know the frequency, in the past two weeks, I have had over 500 of these “attacks” on just one of my websites. These attacks are done by “robots”. Basically an automated program that does this 24 hours a day. You can tell it’s a robot comment the same way as you can tell it’s a phishing scam on your email. Bad grammar, horrible spelling, the message changes gender, pretty obvious stuff. Fortunately, my platform has a spam filter and less than 1/10th of 1% actually make it through, and it still has to be approved, and yes I moderate my site. Wait, moderate opinions. Another concept “Legacy Media” may want to consider. Usually, you get the one liners. However, like all things electronic or mechanical, sometimes, things go drastically wrong. Like this spam Janice received today. And yes, this will be my longest post EVER.
