Every weekend starts with some Friday night fun, and to me, that means some live music in Connecticut. Eight to the Bar is kicking off the season for the Owenego in Branford. That is going to be one very hot dance floor. My Boys, Crosseyed Cat is doing a double header weekend. Friday night they got Johnny B’s in Wolcott rocking, and then Saturday they pull into Center Station in Berlin. Redline is doing it all weekend as well with Friday night at the Dark Horse in Oxford and then getting it done at Chute Gates in Terryville. Some other great shows going on are Drive Time at the Free Spirit in Vernon, Kathy Thompson Band doin it right at Molto Bene in Ansonia, Freeplay doing it to the Chowder Pot in Branford, The Bernadettes blowing the roof of Donahues in Branford and the Patrones taking it to the Hydeaway in Plantsville. FYI, Saturday night you have Bad Rooster at the Red Door, and The Mix at Whiskeys in Derby.
Next up, some Family Fun. Their will be a Civil War encampment out at Mystic Seaport, but this one has a twist. It’s from the Naval and Marine side of the war. History teaches all about the land battles, but the Naval side was just as critical. You also have the Robin Hood Sprintime Faire in Guilford, St. George’s Greek Festival in Hartford, the Danbury City Fair Carnival in ,well, Danbury. These events are all weekend long.
Saturday has the Riverfest and Dragon Boat races in Norwich, which is a very cool event. If classic and custom car cruises are your thing, their is a ton of them, including the Charter Oak Firebird Cruise Night in Newington, and the Monroe Street Riders pulling into Bill’s Drive In in Monroe. The Lyme Farmers Market is opening for the season, and this is one my favorites.
Sunday brings the return of the Coventry Regional Farmers Market, which is one of the best best in the Country. Definitely worth the trip, and it is a very nice drive from anywhere in the State. If you want to learn Ballroom Dancing, then head to Branford, and check out Dance in Rhythm’s Super Sunday lessons. 2 1/2 hours for $10 a person. No partner needed. Sunday is Fun Day at the Sbc’s across the Ct Shoreline. Start with brunch or end with a family night out with a magician to keep the kids entertained. Finally, a great cruise and car show. Except add a twist. The 2nd Annual Wings and Wheels Car Show in Plainville. Drive in or fly in. Your choice.
Here’s some indoor things to do, just in case it really gets hot. All weekend, and into September, many of the State’s Bowling Centers are offering free bowling for kids. Many of them also have a way for the family to register, so it’s really free bowling for the family!. You can also check out the New England Air Museum in Windsor Locks or the Discovery and Science Museum in Bridgeport.
All the details are located on the Ct Weekend Events and Things to Do Calendar. Just click on that link. Oh, BTW I have added flea markets, and there are a ton of arts & crafts shows coming up as well.
